Therapy & Counseling

Jamie sees individual women and men, couples, children and adolescents, and families. People come into therapy wanting to better understand themselves and/or their relationships, and to relieve symptoms that range from uncomfortable to debilitating. Jamie helps pinpoint her clients' issues and their effects as well as their strengths to minimize negative symptoms, improve their view of themselves and their relationships, and free themselves to accomplish life goals. Jamie helps couples restore better communication and redevelop bonds that seem to have faded.

Divorce Mediation

Divorce Mediation is a form of dispute resolution. It is a process in which the divorcing parties work with a trained mediator to create a marital settlement and/or a parenting agreement. The value of this process is that the parties feel that they maintain control of the divorce process, making it much likelier that they will stay committed to their agreement. Matters to resolve include: Initial Custody, Visitation/Parenting Time Schedule, Removal (when one parent wishes to move to another state with the children), Modification of Custody (when one parent wishes to modify the current custody arrangement), Visitation Abuse Issues (when current visitation/parenting time schedule is not being adhered to),  Joint Custody, or other Non-Economic issues relating to the minor children.

Divorce Coach

Collaborative Divorce is a form of dispute resolution when individuals decide to reside separately and/or dissolve their marriage. Individuals enter into a contract with their legal counsel understanding their legal counsel will not litigate should the collaborative process not result in an agreement. Other professionals may be part of the team, including a divorce coach, such as Jamie Pellar, and who works with one of the individuals in navigating through the process.

Child Custody Evaluation

Jamie has been a Child Custody Evaluator for over 15 years. She works collaboratively with lawyers to help create a non-litigious divorce. These evaluations are court ordered when mediation or alternative efforts have not resulted in a resolution of the decision making (custody) and parenting issues. The evaluation includes individual interviews with the divorcing parents, observation interviews with each parent and the minor children, interviews with the minor children individually, and often a joint interview with the parents. It also includes collateral contacts with therapists, school staff, day care providers and any other significant individuals involved with the family. The evaluator makes recommendations to the court regarding decision making (custody), parenting time, supportive services, or recommendations regarding other relevant issues.

Couple, Premarital, Marital, & Family

Premarital counseling is a type of therapy that helps couples prepare for marriage. Premarital counseling can help ensure that you and your partner have a strong, healthy relationship — giving you a better chance for a stable and satisfying marriage. Premarital counseling can also help you identify weaknesses that could become problems during marriage.

Marriage and family therapists treat a wide range of serious clinical problems including: depression, marital problems, anxiety, individual psychological problems, and child-parent problems. The therapy is brief, solution-focused, specific with attainable therapeutic goals, and designed with the "end in mind." Family therapy may be voluntary, court referred or court ordered. The therapy might address: parents communication, management of different parenting styles, children's feelings about and/or adjustment to the parents' separation or to transitioning between parents homes, or any changes in the family that are resulting in problems for family members.
